Crest
The club was sold to a new owner, John McMullen, in 1982. A contest to choose the name garnered nearly 10,000 fans, ultimately landing on The New Jersey Devils. John’s wife, Jackie McMullen, developed the concept for the emblem.
Primary Color
The deep green color is a nod to the Garden State and the South Jersey Pine Barrens where the infamous New Jersey Devil is thought to live.

Colorado Rockies 1976–1982
Paying homage to the Kansas City Scouts, the Colorado Rockies were born wearing the same bold colors as their former team with a few key changes. The new look came by removing the stripes from the shoulder and sleeves, eliminating the thin lines within the golden stripes, and establishing a more modern equally weighted three-stripe system. The end result created a uniform that would later evolve into the Devils' current uniform with a few slight adjustments.
Red and Green 1982-1992
With the birth of the New Jersey Devils came the first jersey in Devils history. Now fondly known only as our "retros," the team's new identity was a stark departure from the past. The two-stripe design was the first time in the club's history that they had departed from their traditional three. Second, the striping on the shoulders harkened back to the Scouts, but with a more '80s twist. And lastly, the team found new colors to match their new home.
Red and Black 1992-2007
During the era these jerseys were worn, the team won three Stanley Cups and established themselves as a winning franchise. This new jersey featured a simplified all-black shoulder and went back to a three-stripe system that featured a smaller outer stripe.
Reebok Edge 2007–2017
In 2007 the RBK Edge jersey was introduced to the NHL. While other teams were making massive changes, the Devils decided to go against the grain and change nothing. The only move was made by the NHL who put their shield on the collar.
adidas adizero 2017–Present
In 2017, the adizero jersey was born. A lot of attention was applied to the neck including a nod to the Kansas City Scouts with a red collar and a shout out to when the Devils hoisted the cup. The Stanley Cup years ('93,'00,'03) were placed on green to pay homage to the Garden State and the team's historic colors and the bottom three stripes were traded in for a single black stripe.

Kansas City Scouts 1974-76
For two years, the Scouts (the NHL club that eventually became the Devils) donned a bold sweater that included brightly colored stripes. The establishment of red in the team's history began with a three-stripe pattern across the elbows and waist. The modern, clean collar with single color was another feature that helped the team stand out. The Scouts only wore these jerseys for two years, before relocating to Colorado and rebranding.
Collar
This marks the first time every NHL team is included in an alternate jersey rollout. The entire design process took about two years. The number ‘82 represents the year the Devils came to New Jersey.
Reversed Palette
While there have been green accents throughout the jersey’s history, this is the first time the team has had a primarily green jersey.
